Freshman Congresswoman Laura Friedman visited Bludso’s BBQ restaurant Aug. 4 in honor of National Black Business Month. Kevin Bludso, the restaurant’s owner, sat down with the congresswoman at 609 N. La Brea Ave. to discuss the importance of community-centered businesses.

“Our local businesses are the lifeblood of the district; they’re what give our neighborhoods character,” said Friedman, representing the 30th district.

Through a scholarship program, the restaurant’s profits also give back to Black students in the Compton School District, serving the South L.A. city, where Kevin Bludso grew up.

“It’s always great to see our homegrown businesses doing well, and we love a chance to highlight them,” said Friedman.
