Capt. Ryan Lee

Olympic Division’s Los Angeles Police Department has a new leader. Meet Capt. Ryan Lee. Not to say he’s a follower, but his family forged some good paths for him.

This native Angeleno first followed his brother to UCLA, where he got his Bachelor of Arts in history and African American studies. He played for the university’s National Collegiate Athletic Association Champion soccer team.

Then he followed other family members, including an aunt and uncle, to the LAPD, where he graduated October 2002. Through the years, he received a graduate degree in business studies from Pepperdine University, and a graduate certificate in public safety from the University of Virginia. He was also invited to and graduated from the elite FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Lee is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, an international business honor society.

At LAPD, Lee has continued in the scholastic arena as an academy instructor in arrest and control tactics. He and Olympic Co-Captain Rachel Rodriguez were training officers at the Police Academy for physical fitness at the same time. Lee also taught at LAPD’s Leadership School and has served at numerous divisions and in positions throughout the city including counterterrorism, sergeant, and detective.

He’s been married for over 20 years and has two children.
