Co-living units aren’t the only change maybe coming to Rossmore Avenue. Construction is expected to start this spring on a twisting, 11-story, mid-rise apartment building.
Located at 617 N. Rossmore Ave., plans for the 120-foot-tall modern residential tower in Hancock Park include razing an existing two-story structure to make way for the new building with a curling design, which takes inspiration from the curve in Rossmore, just south of Melrose. The result is an optical illusion: from one direction, the top appears thinner than the bottom, while from another direction, the opposite appears true.
While the northern stretch of Rossmore has no height limits, and while additional density theoretically would be permitted beyond the planned 14 units, the parking requirements for a larger project would require costly below-grade construction. So, it’s to be 14 units.

Is co-living a viable alternative and marketable trend for the Rossmore Corridor? Living in the area for over 15 yrs, working in real estate development and interfacing with local residents as well as the younger affluent generation, I think not. I am not sure where they obtain their market data to support such living for this corridor. Most of these developers who think so, have no understanding or appreciation of this community or have ever lived in or patronized our community. The proposed design and scale for 610 Rossmore as illustrated by this article appears to be a developer’s fantasy who has no appreciation of scale, form or good harmonious and marketable design that would be compatible to the surrounding historical structures and one of the few lasting historical corridors of LA.
