Ballets, puppets, choruses to perform ‘Nutcracker”
LOCAL DANCERS Adam Berstein, Isabella Franco and Matisse Love have lead roles in Marat Daukayev’s “Nutcracker.”
Isabella Franco of Park La Brea will reprise the role of Masha, Matisse Love, Hancock Park, will dance the part of the Sugarplum Fairy and Adam Bernstein, Hancock Park will dance the role of the Prince in Marat Daukeyev Ballet’s “Nutcracker.”
It is among a variety of productions of the holiday classic throughout December.
Westside Ballet Company
Brought to life by falling snow and a Christmas tree that grows, Westside Ballet Company’s is the longest-running Nutcracker production in L.A. history. Performances are on Fri., Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m., and Sat., Dec. 8 and Sunday, Dec. 9 at 1 and 5 p.m. at the historic Wadsworth Theater, 11301 Wilshire Blvd., on the V.A. grounds in Westwood. Los Angeles Ballet
The Los Angeles Ballet will perform on Sat., Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. and Sun., Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. at the Alex Theatre, 216 N. Brand Ave. in Glendale. Shows at Royce Hall on the UCLA campus are on Sat., Dec. 15 and Sun., Dec. 16 at 1 and 5 p.m.

Marat Daukayev Ballet
More than 120 dancers from Marat Daukayev Ballet will don 500 costumes to perform on Fri., Dec. 14 at 7 p.m., Sat., Dec. 15 at 2 and 7 p.m., and Sun., Dec. 16 at noon and 4 p.m.

“NUTCRACKER SWINGS,” set in Hancock Park in the 40s, will be performed by City Ballet at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre.
City Ballet of Los Angeles
The holiday classic is set in Hancock Park in the 1940s during WWII in the City Ballet of Los Angeles’ performance at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre, 743S. Lucerne Blvd., on Fri., Dec. 21 at 8 p.m. and Sat., Dec. 22 at 1 and 8 p.m. “Nutcracker Swings” uses the music original score of Tchaikovsky and Duke Ellington’s Jazz Nutcracker. Debbie Allen’s ‘Nutcracker’
Not your grandma’s Nutcracker, Debbie Allen’s “Hot Chocolate Nutcracker” is at UCLA’s Royce Hall on Thurs., Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. and Sat., Dec. 8 at 1 and 7 p.m.
The story, narrated by three wisecracking mice, features lively characters and new music for all ages. Go to ticketmaster.com.
Red Chair Children’s Production Company
A cast of more than 100 children ages five to 18 will dance classic ballet alongside adults in the Red Chair Children’s Production Company’s performances on Sun., Dec. 9 at 1 and 6:30 p.m. at the Alex Theater, 216 N. Brand Ave. in Glendale. Call 818-243-2539.
Bob Baker Marionette Theater
The marionette version of the ballet classic has been presented by puppeteer Bob Baker since 1969. Employing more than 100 marionettes, the family performance features all the characters from the beloved classic.

Moscow Ballet
The most famous of holiday ballets has its roots in Russia, premiering there in 1892.
