SEED is first public boarding school in state
The SEED School of Los Angeles County is California’s first tuition-free, public college-prep, 24-hour, five-day-a-week boarding school, and this last June its inaugural 43-student senior class graduated receiving 203 college acceptances among them. Every student from the inaugural was accepted into college. One student, Leimert Park native Isaiah Loper heading to Howard University, received 21 college acceptances and more than $1.3 million in scholarship offers.

SEED LA uses a block schedule with four classes per day. Each class is 75 minutes. As a part of the program, students receive tutoring from volunteers and participate in extracurriculars such as student government, dance, and robotics. SEED LA’s mission is to help students from low-income households not only get into, but succeed in college. The school’s motto is: “Breaking Cycles. Building Futures.”
SEED partners with L.A. County, Metro, and others to receive $10 million annually to fund boarding and services. SEED also hosts events and operates a food pantry serving over 500 families.
