Olympic EditLocal underprivileged children will be given the gift of new shoes from Santa himself thanks to police officers in the Olympic area. But they need your help!

The LAPD’s Olympic Division is holding a shoe drive until Dec. 1 to collect new shoes to help children in need. They are asking members of the community, to drop off a new pair of children-sized shoes in bins at the Olympic Area Watch Commanders Office, at 1130 S. Vermont Ave.

Shoes from Santa

Operation Shoes from Santa, on Thurs. Dec. 10 at 6 p.m., will transform the police station into Santa’s Workshop, complete with real snow to play in, and hot cocoa and treats as refreshments for hundreds of needy children.

Santa and his elves will match donated shoes to preselected kids in attendance.

“To my surprise and dismay, there are a lot of kids in our neighborhood schools who are homeless and in shelters,” says Senior Lead Officer Eric Mollinedo.

“Last year 1,500 kids were able to receive new shoes,” according to Mollinedo, who says the kids are identified by a school psychologist using a list of underprivileged kids in the district.

For more information, call the Olympic Senior Lead Office at 213-382-9141, or email Officer Mollinedo at 31754@lapd.lacity.org.
