Pontiff has Passed

| April 21, 2025

Pope Francis returned to the house of the Father at 88 years old on Easter Sunday at 0535 GMT.

Pope Francis, the first Latin American leader of the Roman Catholic Church, died at 88 years old. His last public act was being driven around Saint Peter’s Square in an open air popemobile on Easter Sunday.
His Easter Sunday message included a reminder and plea for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza, and he also met with vice president JD Vance on Easter Sunday.
The papal conclave, the secret voting process which takes place in the Sistine chapel of the Vatican City, will take place following the funeral. Cardinals under 80 years age will gather to vote on a successor, which will need a 2/3 majority to win. The Cardinals write the name of their choice on a piece of paper and if the smoke coming out of the chimney of the Vatican is black it means there has not been a 2/3 majority. When the smoke comes out white, the Roman Catholic Church will have a new pope.
