Winter, spring, summer, and fall… camps are year-round

When we think of camp, traditionally we envision sun-kissed days of swimming, wearing shorts, enjoying the outdoors, and possibly getting sunburnt. Although now is the perfect time to reserve a summer experience, camps have sessions throughout the year for everyone.
Many overnight camps host family, teen, and women or men’s weekends. With a family weekend, the whole gang can enjoy camp together. If your kids go to camp over the summer, this is a great opportunity to be in their environment and experience what they do while they’re there.

Camp can be a family thing, too. Josie Aaronson, Hancock Park adjacent, goes to Camp Solomon Schechter in Olympia, Washington, where her mother also went. Aaronson’s sister, Cayla, was a camper and a counselor at Solomon Schechter.

Ziperovich started at Skylake as an infant attending family weekend retreats. Her mother started as a camper, became a counselor, and has remained close to her camp friends for decades. Ziperovich hopes to follow in her mother’s footsteps.
The most miraculous generational story was from Lilah. She relayed that her great grandfather was on the first bus to Scatico in 1921. Her grandparents met at camp. Her dad and his siblings went there, and all her cousins have gone there. That’s four generations. She said, “We’re known as the Kennedys of Scatico.”
