OSTEOPATHIC MEDICINE emphasizing the whole person is practiced by Dr. Genewick, here with her daughter.

Dr. Joanne Genewick will open her new practice, Genewick Osteopathy, at 435 N. Larchmont Blvd., on Fri., Jan. 2.

“The focus of my practice is osteopathic manual medicine and integrative medicine consults,” she told us via email.

Her new office is a one-person operation. “It is a simple, one room, one doc, cash practice.” She shares the space with an acupuncture clinic.

As a doctor of osteopathic medicine, Genewick treats with the same medical authority as M.D.s, but with a deeper focus on whole-person healing. The practice helps “understand how structure influences function and how subtle imbalances can ripple into chronic issues. This is medicine that listens, observes, and treats with intention,” she said.

What is integrative
medicine?

The integrative medicine part of her practice brings together conventional medical treatments and and alternative therapies to address the full spectrum of a patient’s health—physical, emotional, and social. Physicians practicing integrative medicine consider a wide range of options, from lifestyle modifications to medications, and work collaboratively with patients to create personalized plans.

This approach encourages active participation in health decisions and aims to promote long-term wellness through tailored, practical strategies, Genewick said.

Genewick grew up in Windsor Square, and she attended All Children Great and Small Preschool, St. Brendan Catholic Elementary, and Immaculate Heart High School. She wanted to be a doctor from a young age and was initially drawn to sports medicine, but personal experiences guided her toward holistic medicine.

After graduating from medical school in 2014, Genewick practiced family medicine in Iowa before joining the Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, Minnesota. There she completed a fellowship through the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine.

She also pursued advanced studies in herbal medicine through the Foundations of Herbal Medicine Course, which she continues to study today.

Genewick has published articles in medical journals and lectures on a range of osteopathic and primary care topics like care following abdominal surgery, cardiovascular disease risk factors in women, and advanced care planning.

In 2025 Dr. Genewick returned to her childhood home on Van Ness Avenue to be closer to family and to open her practice.

When not working, she spends time with her wife, Kemmie, daughter Sylvie, and her dogs.
