L.A. Welcomes Long Awaited Metro Transit Center at LAX
Angelenos and travelers alike celebrate a momentous milestone today as Metro opens its new LAX/Metro Transit Center station at 5 p.m., affectionately referred to as the “gateway to the city of angels.” The gleaming facility, located at Aviation Boulevard and 96th Street, now brings Metro’s C and K Lines ever closer to the airport, and until the People Mover debuts later this year, a complimentary shuttle will whisk passengers directly to the terminals every ten minutes.
Metro Board Chair Janice Hahn, joined by Mayor Karen Bass, Supervisor Holly Mitchell, and Mayor James T. Butts of Inglewood, marked the occasion with a ribbon‑cutting ceremony. Their remarks underscored the station’s role in easing congestion and offering a dependable, car‑free transit alternative—especially timely as Los Angeles prepares to host global events like the 2026 World Cup and 2028 Olympics.
Passengers passing through will find more than just rail connections: the station boasts a secure bike hub, a sun‑lit pedestrian plaza, restrooms, a passenger drop‑off zone, and amenities for bus, rideshare, and taxi services.

As the sun sets on the first day of service, one can easily imagine a future where rail travel to LAX is as seamless and refined as the city itself.
