Business and community leaders met with Wilshire police and staff at the American Girl store at The Grove for the Captain’s Roundtable.

Capt. Howard Leslie, Wilshire commanding officer, praised the work of local officers before discussing the division’s new social media platform.

Leslie told the audience he believes social media can be used as a way to reduce crime and keep people informed: “It allows us to get information out before people need it.”

Wilshire division recently introduced its webpage, lapdwilshire.com, and twitter account @lapdwilshire, but it was the new smart-phone application that Leslie was most excited to announce.

The app provides valuable police-related information such as an interactive phone directory, crime information, and an option to leave anonymous tips. The app is available for iPhone and Android free of charge. To download, search “LAPD Wilshire” on your smart-phone.
