Kathy Whooley says she “fell into owning the business.”   Thirty years ago, the Larchmont Medical building office was one of four facilities where Whooley was a physical therapist employee.

In fact, Kathy had already built a sterling reputation as a fine therapist and good friend to all of her clients, many high profile.

So putting her master’s degree in business to work, she took on ownership made the best deal this side of Boston (her hometown) and Larchmont Physical Therapy (LPT) was born.

And for the next 33 years (30 as owner), her clinic has provided healing and pain relief to thousands of patients ranging in age from six weeks to 105 years old.

The industry is trending to younger population with an emphasis on patient education, prevention and early intervention.

Her eighth-floor clinic, recently winning the PTPN Gold Practice award for its commitment to quality, efficiency and patient satisfaction, is outfitted with treadmills, elliptical machines and various weights, bands, and exercise balls.

Whooley attributes the success of her business to her seven-member staff and their ability to analyze a patient’s problems.

Said one satisfied patient, “I love the personalized and holistic approach at LPT.  They address the issue from many directions and listen carefully to understand the patient’s concerns. All the therapists bring a deep, expert understanding of the body, which leads to lasting results and real change, especially for chronic pain.  The whole staff is highly trained, compassionate and easy to work with.”

A veteran traveler who has been around the world twice, Whooley recently celebrated a birthday by playing Pebble Beach.  Not only is golf an avocation, she also is a 4 to 5 a.m. gym attendee on her non-golf mornings.

Another sport figures into the equation.  She met her husband Jay Jacoby at a racquetball tournament 36 years ago.
