Garcetti visits Larchmont Village to promote ‘M’

As voters take to the polls on Election Day, Mayor Eric Garcetti made a visit to Larchmont Blvd. to encourage residents to vote yes on Measure M.
The Measure, if passed, will increase sales tax in Los Angeles County to fund traffic and transit improvements.
“We’re handing out M&Ms to remind people to vote yes on Measure M,” Garcetti told shoppers on Larchmont Blvd.
“It’s about making sure we have better options to cut traffic so that we can spend more time with family and friends,” he said.
Garcetti described the measure as a “no-brainer” to a group of shoppers gathered outside Blue Mercury:
“Measure M builds out 10 new rail lines, and it creates 465,000 jobs, but it paves our local streets and fixes our freeways too.”
Noting how it amounts to $120 billon of transportation investment, Garcetti said there’s something for everybody in the Measure: “We have lines that we’re going to build for our buses and trains, and we have billion of dollars to spend in your area to fix streets, create jobs and make those traffic headaches go away.”
On the topic of local area improvements, the Chronicle asked the Mayor if Measure M would help the sidewalks on Larchmont Blvd.
“Yes,” said Garcetti. “The local return dollars, which are the dollars every city gets — about 20 percent of the dollars raised in the measure — will pave streets and fix sidewalks in Los Angeles.”
